Scholarship Award

December 16th, 2016 at 10:56 pm

My son got his award letter today! MSU has granted him 11 k per year in scholarship money and a one time study abroad scholarship (up to 5k). He already has 1500 from back in elementary school. Dr. Ben Carson sponsored that one. I remember he had to write an essay. He won that in 4th grade. He has also been applying for obscure scholarships he's found FastWeb lately. I am so incredibly proud of him. His hard work is paying off for him quite well!

That is fantastic! Was he considered out of state for tuition?

    What great news!

I remember in high school applying for everything even if I wasn't majoring in that particular subject I wrote my essays based on my intended major (international relations) and made the connection to the different topics. I ended up getting a lot of small awards ($500-1000) and most renewable. It was such a surprise. He might consider that, too. How could his intended major work or link to a topic he may not have thought about for the scholarship topics.

@CCF Yes, he was considered out of state. He will be in state sophomore year since I am moving back with him.

Congrats! I was able to pay for a good portion of my Master's degree by applying for any scholarship I remotely qualified for. Smile

Please pass along Congratulations to son. Wonderful to have an annual scholarship. I hope he'll take advantage of the opportunity to take classes overseas, it's so important to 'live like the natives' and experience a different way of doing things even if only for a semester.
Adding my voice to Kiki and Laura to encourage DS to apply for any and all smaller scholarships he might be eligible for. There are so many that never even get an application! Only because of the primaries, do I recognize Dr Carson's name, wonderful that he funds. scholarships
